Calcium is critical!
The awareness of the importance of dietary calcium has increased because research has established that in addition to maintaining and obtaining healthy bones and teeth, calcium is important for the regulation of cell function, protecting cells from free radical damage, nerve transmission, blood clotting, and controlling muscle contraction and relaxation.
On top of that, calcium provides a protective role against osteoporosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), pregnancy-induced hypertension, hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol), certain cancers (colon and mammary) and possibly the prevention of gallstones1. Osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterised by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue. This leads to bone fragility and an increased susceptibility to fractures of the hip, spine, and wrist. Inadequate calcium intake is a contributing factor in the development of osteoporosis.

Facts on Calcium Absorption
